The South African Council on Higher Education (CHE) is an independent statutory body responsible for advising the Minister of Higher Education and Training on all higher education policy issues, and for quality assurance in higher education and training.
It is the mission of the Department of Higher
Education and Training to develop capable, well educated and skilled
citizens that are able to compete in a sustainable, diversified and
knowledge-intensive international economy, which meets the developmental
goals of our country.
The objectives of the NQF are designed to contribute to the full personal development of each learner and the social and economic development of the nation at large.
Umalusi Council sets and monitors standards for general and further education and training in South Africa in accordance with the General and Further Education and Training Quality Assurance Act, 2001.

The QCTO is one of the three Quality Councils provided for in the National Qualifications Framework Act (NQF Act No 67 of 2008).

The QCTO was established under the Skills Development Act and became operational on the 1st April 2010 following the publication of Government Gazette No 33059, 1st April 2010.

The QCTO has been putting in place the necessary building blocks for it to begin operating. On 20th July 2011 it will be delegating functions to the first generation of 'official' Development Quality Partners. This signals that work has begun in earnest.
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme of South Africa (NSFAS) is determined to make a difference in our land by providing a sustainable financial aid system for study loans and bursaries, allowing academically deserving and financially needy students to realise their potential and hopes for the future.
The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme that promotes teaching in public schools. Full-cost bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a full teaching qualification in an area of national priority. Recipients of these bursaries will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they receive the bursary.
The objectives of the NQF as outlined in the SAQA Act are as follows:
- To create an integrated national framework for learning achievements;
- Facilitate access to, and mobility and progression within education, training and career paths;
- Enhance the quality of education and training;
- Accelerate the redress of past unfair discrimination in education, training and employment opportunities;
- Contribute to the full personal development of each learner and the social and economic development of the nation at large.
If you are in Grade 12 or your 1st year at university, you could qualify for a full undergraduate scholarship from the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation.
